Indianapolis Metro police were called just after 3 p.m. Thursday to a mobile home park along Raceway Road on the city’s west side. There, officers found 48-year-old Kyle Sallee shot to death in a kitchen.
“It is unfortunate. Any incident of violence in our city is a tragic one,” IMPD officer Drew Brown said while on scene Thursday. “IMPD is going to work hard to hold those who commit these acts responsible.”
Just hours after Brown spoke on scene, police arrested 23-year-old Noah Wood for murder. As soon as police arrived, the suspect reportedly surrendered with his hands up.
After being placed in the back of the police squad car, Wood allegedly admitted he shot the victim. He added that he didn’t mean for it to go down the way it did. His confession didn’t stop there.
According to court records, the victim and his girlfriend, who lived with in the home with Wood, were arguing over music being played too loud. Wood told police he tried to get the pair to stop arguing, but instead he also got into an argument with the victim that ended when the accused killer got a gun and pulled the trigger.
“We say it time and time again: guns are not the answer,” Brown said after the arrest was made. “Violence is not the answer. Don’t pick up a firearm based on temporary emotions and make a permanent consequence that can end someone’s life and throw your life away.”
Police claim the victim recorded the fight on his phone with two witnesses looking on.
Police said Wood again admitted he shot the victim after watching the video, but claimed “he had no memory of what happened.” The suspect also said he was possessed by somebody named “Zeek” who was “controlling his body.”
IMPD officials said cases like this illustrate that police can’t prevent violence without the community’s help.
“These types of violent incidents, where someone loses their life, are deep-rooted issues,” Brown said. “That takes a long time to get to the bottom of. We can’t do it alone.”
Wood is now being held in jail without bond pending the filing of formal charges by the prosecutor’s office.
Although two witnesses inside the home did cooperate and spoke with police, IMPD asked that anyone with information about this incident call Detective Shem Ragsdale at (317) 327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Shem.Ragsdale@indy.gov.
Tipsters looking to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
