Woman needs your help raising $30,000 to provide meals for starving children

RIGBY – Local volunteers are raising funds to help feed starving children around the world.

Elodie Taylor is organizing the fundraiser as a volunteer with Feed My Starving Children,

a nonprofit that works with communities and organizations across the globe to fulfill its mission.

The nonprofit provides meals developed by food science and nutrition professionals, according to its website. Monetary donations are needed to get those meals to the kids. Taylor is calling on the community to help her raise $30,000, which will provide 100,000 meals to feed 300 children for a year.

“We need to have two-thirds of the funding by the end of April,” Taylor tells EastIdahoNews.com. “We are in urgent need of contributions from families and businesses to make this happen.”

Once the funds are acquired, FMSC will send a truckload of food — rice, soy protein, vitamins and vegetables. Taylor and her group of volunteers will meet at Cottonwood Elementary School in Rigby on June 13 and 14 to put together mobile food packs in boxes and prepare them for shipment overseas.

“The food is delivered by foot, by mule, by boat in places where there’s no access to vehicles,” Taylor says.

Minnesota businessman Richard Proudfit founded FMSC in 1987. He’s since passed away. Since its formation, the organization has shipped more than four billion meals to more than 100 countries.

Taylor was involved in two separate Feed My Starving Children events in Idaho Falls last year. Her son participated in a MobilePack event as part of a school field trip and she was a chaperon for the event.

Her involvement prompted her to get involved further and another volunteer suggested she host a MobilePack event in Rigby. She reached out to Jefferson School District to get students involved and Cottonwood Elementary offered its space.

She’s pleased with how the Idaho Falls events turned out and she’s hoping for a similar turnout in Rigby. Whether or not it happens depends on the generosity of the community.

Taylor say it’s urgent that people start donating ahead of the event.

“We need everyone’s contributions to make this happen. If we do not have the money (before the date of the event), we will not be able to host the event in Rigby. The money collected would have to go to another event in the area.”
