Firefighters battled multiple fires across Marion County on Wednesday night as extreme fire danger conditions persist.
A fire in the Lakeway community scorched approximately 10 acres before crews from Lakeway, Peel, and Pine Mountain, with assistance from the Arkansas Forestry Division, contained the blaze. The fire involved a barn and surrounding wildland but did not threaten any additional structures.
Meanwhile, a separate fire on Marion County Road 7058 off the Flippin Bypass destroyed a mobile home. Firefighters from Flippin, Rea Valley, Fairview, Yellville, Ralph-Caney, and Bull Shoals worked together to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Marion County Judge Jason Stumph issued a burn ban last Friday. Authorities stress that violating the ban could result in serious legal consequences. Anyone caught intentionally burning during a burn ban could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which carries penalties of up to one year in jail and fines of up to $2,500.
Officials warn that the county is currently at an extreme fire danger level, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission. Every fire district in Marion County was called out Wednesday to assist in extinguishing fires.
Residents are urged to refrain from burning until conditions improve.
