Delaware House of Representatives passes end of life bill for terminally ill patients

DOVER, Del. (WPHL) — The Delaware House of Representatives has passed a bill that gives patients with terminally ill diseases to take their own life.

If State House Bill 140 turns into law, adult Delaware residents will be able to request and self-administer medication to end their life.

The bill states that if a doctor tells a patient that they have six months or less to live, and the patient has the mental capacity to make a grave decision, they can obtain life-ending medication.

The proposed legislation passed in the House with 21 yes votes, 17 no votes, and 3 abstentions.

The bill will now be sent to the Delaware Senate. If approved, it will go to Governor Matt Meyer’s desk.
