By rssfeeds-admin The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the snowboarder was identified as a 55-year-old man, and Park City Mountain said the victim was from Hawaii. Further identifying information was not provided.
“While the exact circumstances surrounding how the individual became buried remain unclear, there are no indications that the incident was avalanche related,” the sheriff’s office said.
According to the release, the sheriff’s office responded to reports of an injured snowboarder just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Officials with Park City Mountain said the incident occurred on “an intermediate trail off Super Condor Express,” and the victim was found buried in the snow.
A family member of the victim reportedly helped ski patrollers dig him out of the snow, and the victim was later transported to Canyons Village Base Clinic, a medical facility on-site. However, the sheriff’s office said he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
“On behalf of our entire Park City Mountain team, we extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of our guest,” Deirdra Walsh, VP and COO of Park City Mountain, said.
Authorities said further details will be released as they’re available. The investigation is ongoing.
