BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — A woman was pronounced dead after a reported shooting in a parking lot near Our Lady of the Lake Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, a shooting occurred near the 5000 block of Hennessy Boulevard around 3:45 p.m. Emergency medical services officials reported being contacted but said personnel was later canceled as the patient was brought to the hospital by someone.
Police Chief Thomas Morse confirmed the victim was a female employee. She later died of her injuries.
OLOL released the following statement.
“In consultation with BRPD, we have lifted the lockdown at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center & Children’s Hospital. Enhanced security and law enforcement presence will remain in place, however, there is no active threat on our campus. Please avoid the area around Hennessy Boulevard near Walgreens. We are referring all further questions to law enforcement.”
“Our thoughts are with the family, they lost a family member,” said Our Lady of the Lake Health, Baton Rouge Market President Charles Spicer, Jr. “They lost a daughter, mother, sister, our work family. Thanks to the first responders, our security team acted quickly.
Police ask drivers to avoid the area.
