NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Changes are coming for the Catholic newspaper, The Clarion Herald.

The Archdiocese says it’s too expensive for the free newspaper to continue to operate the way it has for decades.

In a statement, the Archdiocese says, “We are exploring all options of continuing the legacy of The Clarion Herald to share the good news of the local Catholic Church in a new way.”

The decision was reportedly due in part to a vote of the Priest Council to stop funding the Clarion “through their ordinary income, due not to any financial crisis, but the rising cost of property insurance and operating a parish.”
