JENNINGS, La (
KLFY)– The mayoral race is underway in Jennings with three people vying to be the city’s next mayor.
As registered voters prepare to vote for the city’s mayor, incumbent Mayor Henry Guinn is running for re-election.
Guinn said “It’s a very big election for the City of Jennings, and I’m seeking my third term.”
Guinn said he is proud of the growth the city has seen over the last seven years and wants to continue the work his administration has started.
“I saw real potential in my hometown, and I think if you look back over the seven years that I’ve been mayor, everybody can say we have progressed and we are better off today than where we were.” Guinn said
Guinn said his leadership, experience, and vision are reasons he should be re-elected. In addition to contributing to the city’s growth, Guinn aims to increase revenue which can lead to pay raises for first responders. Guinn also stated that working to improve the city has been both rewarding and challenging.
“There have been significant obstacles to economic development, to our zoning codes, but we’ve overcome them through compromise. But, as long as we can work together and compromise when there is an obstacle, I think you’re going to continue to see success and a very vibrant Jennings.” Guinn said
Guinn said another goal of his, should he be re-elected, is to bring the city together to make for a more unified Jennings.
“My goal for the next term is to continue to bridge that divide through economic development.” Guinn said.
Early voting will end on March 22. and election day will be on March 29.
