NEWARK, Del. (WPHL) — A 13-year-old from Wilmington has been arrested for a murder that happened in Newark.

According to New Castle County Police, officers responded to Clarion Court in the Kimberton neighborhood around 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16 for reports of multiple gunshots.

When officers arrived, they saw two homes had been struck by gunfire. During the preliminary investigation, police were informed that a gunshot wound victim arrived at Christiana Hospital by a private vehicle. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Jahliel Jackson, died at the hospital.

Detectives identified a 13-year-old male from Wilmington as a suspect. He faces the following charges:

  • One Count of Murder in the First Degree
  • One Count of Possession of Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited under 21
  • One Count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

The teenager is being held at the New Castle County Detention Center after failing to pay $170,000 cash bail.
