CHICAGO (WGN) — For the sixth consecutive year, the French bulldog is named Chicago’s number one pup, the American Kennel Club announced Tuesday.

For the third year in a row, the French bulldog is also the most popular AKC-recognized dog breed in the nation.

“It’s no surprise that the Frenchie continues to be Chicago’s number one dog breed,” said AKC executive secretary Gina DiNardo. “These playful and adaptable companions are great city-dwellers and enjoy making new friends.”

While the Frenchie is the most beloved pup among Chicagoans, the golden retriever ranked as the second most popular among locals, followed by the bulldog (No. 3), labrador retriever (No. 4), and the German Shepherd dog (No. 5).

Chicagoans aren’t the only ones enamored with the French Bulldog.

According to the AKC, the Frenchie’s popularity topped all other dog breeds in 2024. The top ranking is the third consecutive for the French bulldog

American Kennel Club’s Most Popular Dogs in the US in 2024 include:
