Pennsylvania bill aims to protect government workers from heightened risk of assault

(WHTM) — A state lawmaker wants to add protections for some government workers.

Representative Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) introduced legislation to add municipal employees to the classification of public servants. He says these types of employees face a heightened risk of assault while on the job.

Currently, assailants face harsher penalties for assaulting certain public servants. This bill would extend it to workers like crossing guards or street cleaners.

“This is a simple piece of bipartisan legislation that holds people accountable for assaulting or attacking individuals, particularly folk who are doing critical work for our families every day,” said Rep. Kenyatta.

The bill has yet to be referred to a committee.
