Suspect attempted to hide 28 grams of crack cocaine, had to be hospitalized: police

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested a suspected crack cocaine dealer who attempted to conceal the drugs upon his arrival at the police station, resulting in his subsequent hospitalization.

According to police, officers with the department’s Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) team stopped a vehicle in the 3100 block of N. Rockton Avenue around 6:20 p.m. on Monday. Authorities said that the car had fled from officers in a previous incident.

The driver, Montell Montgomery, 39, tried to escape by ramming the police squad car, but was ultimately taken into custody, police said.

He was taken to Rockford Police District 1, at 1045 W State Street, and while there, police said he “attempted to conceal over 28 grams of suspected crack cocaine.”

He was taken to a hospital.

Montgomery faces charges of Aggravated Fleeing, Obstructing Justice, Criminal Damage to Government Property, and Possession with Intent to Deliver.

Authorities said Montgomery will be transported to the Winnebago County Jail once he is released.
