SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — The right lane of southbound I-15 was closed on Monday night after a semi-truck leaked several gallons of gas near South Jordan.
According to Lt. Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol, the involved semi-truck reportedly began leaking fuel onto the highway around 9:20 p.m., and Roden said it appeared the truck had been leaking for a few miles.
“No drains are compromised but it sounds like we will have to do a long slowdown from about 9000 S. southbound….” Roden told ABC4.com Monday night.
The truck began leaking around exit 295 on I-15, and later came to a stop around mile marker 293. Roden confirmed that about 50 gallons of fuel had leaked out as of about 10 p.m. on Monday.
The driver of the semi-truck was able to make it into a “dirt area” near the 11400 S. off-ramp, Roden said.
Officials said HAZMAT units were responding to the scene, and believed the fuel tank of the truck may have been punctured by debris on the road. Roden said officials with the health department were heading to the scene as well.
There was no time estimate given for when the incident would be cleared.
