SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man who worked at a school in Salt Lake was arrested for allegedly distributing child sex abuse material (CSAM), according to arrest documents.
Erik Phillip Roan, 31, was arrested on four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, with each count classified as a second-degree felony. Roan was arrested on March 12 and taken to the Salt Lake County Jail.
“Erik works for a School in the Salt Lake County area and has access and is around young children,” arrest documents said.
After executing a search warrant, authorities found several files on Roan’s phone that had been sent from a social media account that was initially reported in 2024. Authorities responded to a residence in Salt Lake County and contacted Roan on March 12.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Salt Lake County, authorities were initially notified of suspicious activity from an account in June 2024, when a social media company filed a CyberTipline report.
The report was filed with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and discussed an account that was reportedly uploading and distributing CSAM.
“Pursuant to several search warrants and court orders, the user of the social media account was reported as residing in the Salt Lake County area,” the affidavit reads. “The suspected files reported to NCMEC were confirmed by ICAC investigators.”
Officials found the social media app on Roan’s phone, and found four CSAM files within his account on the app.
A detective with the Utah Internet Cirmes Against Children (ICAC) task force requested no bail to be set for Roan. There is no further information at this time.
