Rockford felon fought with officers during arrest for gun, drugs: police

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police have announced the arrest of Martavian Cross-Poe, 28, on a slew of charges stemming from a traffic stop in which he reportedly fought with arresting officers at Auburn and Kilburn on Saturday morning.

According to police, officers stopped a vehicle with multiple occupants around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection.

Cross-Poe fought arrest but was taken into custody, police said, adding that a loaded handgun and cocaine were found during the incident.

According to court records, Cross-Poe has multiple felony convictions including robbery in 2013, accident-causing injury or death in 2015, and felony possession of a firearm in 2017.

He now faces charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender, Armed Violence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Deliver, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest.

He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail and his petition to be released pretrial was denied.
