How to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day safely

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – People like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at festive gatherings, but local officers want to make sure people are not chancing their luck.

“You can’t go too hard. You got to make sure you’re safe and sound, home at night,” a Clovis resident said.

St. Patrick’s Day is typically celebrated with green attire, dancing, and pub crawls.

Clovis Police Corporal Amandeep Singh said he wants everyone to have a good time but to avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking too much green beer.

“We just want to make sure everyone’s drinking responsibly, having fun and getting home safely,” Singh said.

Ahead of Monday’s festivities, the Clovis Police Department plans on having more officers on the lookout for drunk drivers.

“In the past, what I’ve noticed that there has been multiple DUIs on Saint Patrick’s Day. So that’s why we have higher visibility in those areas like downtown Clovis or any other bars throughout the city,” Singh said.

He said using alternative transportation is the best option.

“I would order an Uber or Lyft. And if you see someone who’s going to get in a car and you believe they’re intoxicated, just talk to them, stop them and tell them, ‘Hey, I’ll order an Uber.’ I think that’s probably my best advice,” Singh said.
