Preliminary report released showing strength of deadly tornado that hit Bakersfield

The National Weather Service in Springfield sent a survey team to Bakersfield Saturday to begin determining the path and strength of the tornado that struck the town which claimed three lives and injured at least one other.





The preliminary estimate indicates the tornado was an EF3 with peak winds of 140 miles-per-hour. The tornado started just south of Bakersfield and tracked northeast towards South Fork in Howell County. The final end point has not yet been determined. At its peak, the tornado was 600 yards wide.

Several homes were destroyed and numerous homes were damaged according to the National Weather Service. The report says multiple vehicles were rolled 50-100 yards. Numerous trees were also uprooted.

The official report with more details is expected to be released in the coming days.
