Severe storms possible this morning, nice weather next week

A strong storm system is continuing to traverse the United States, producing severe storms across its path.

Widespread severe weather affected the country through the overnight hours and severe storms are ongoing this morning.

Supercell thunderstorms have sprouted up across southeastern Texas this morning, moving mainly to our north through the next few hours. An atmospheric cap ‘lid’ is present in our atmosphere locally, which may limit storm activity. Any storms that do manage to develop, however, will have the chance of going severe quickly, containing gusty winds, large hail, and rotation. A level three risk of severe storms has been put in place across our area, covering the morning and early afternoon hours. Later in the afternoon and evening, a significant tornado outbreak is likely across Mississippi and Alabama.

A front will sweep across tonight, ushering in cooler weather for tomorrow. Highs will reach the lower 70s under mostly sunny skies. We could see a Monday morning start in the mid-40s!

Nice weather will continue through most of next week. A weak front will move through on Wednesday, which could bring an isolated rain chance.
