According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, on the day of the shooting, report of the incident, which occurred in the 78000 block of Highway 51, came in around 1:30 a.m.
On scene, two men, a 26-year-old and a 29-year-old, were found to have been shot. Both were hospitalized and later released.
Detectives say 25-year-old Carlones Lee Coleman Jr. was at the bar when the two victims arrived and joined a group outside. For unknown reasons, Coleman reportedly approached the group and started an argument.
One of the victims reportedly tried to deescalate the situation, and in response Coleman allegedly took out a gun and shot him, as well as the man he arrived with.
TPSO officials say the first man drove to a nearby neighborhood for safety where others called 911 and gave medical assistance while waiting for first responders to arrive. The other man called 911 from the parking lot.
Coleman was found on March 11 when he reportedly tried to buy a gun in Hammond, and was turned down due to the warrant out for his arrest. He was then pulled over and arrested by Hammond Police on West Thomas Street, with officers saying they found a gun in his car.
Coleman now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal discharge of a weapon.
