Check out these 5 film productions coming to Utah, including one starring Steve Carrell

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Five productions have been approved to be filmed in Utah, including an HBO original starring Steve Carell, the upcoming season of “The Chosen,” and a few holiday movies.

The Utah Film Commission made the announcement Friday, March 14, saying that the Utah Board of Tourism Development approved the five productions for state film incentives, which is expected to generate an estimated economic impact of $24.2 million and create over 350 new jobs in Salt Lake, Summit, and Utah counties.

HBO original by Jesse Armstrong

A new HBO original film made by Emmy-winner and Oscar-nominated “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong starring Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youseff was approved for a Rural Utah Film Incentive.

Filming begins this month in Park City and will premiere on HBO this spring. The movie is set to follow a group of billionaire friends as they experience a “rolling international crisis,” according to Warner Bros. The name of the project has yet to be announced.

Jay Roewe, the Senior Vice President of HBO Global Incentives and Production Planning said that choosing Utah was one of the best decisions made in setting up the film.

“The scale and scope offered in its beautiful landscapes and uniquely modern locations have allowed us to seamlessly tell our larger-than-life story with the backdrop it deserves,” Roewe said. “We are grateful for the wonderful support of the Utah Film Commission, including the film incentive and outstanding local crew, and look forward to this being a very special and successful production.”

Season 6 of The Chosen

“The Chosen” is a series that centers on the life of Jesus Christ. Created by Dallas Jenkins, season six was approved for a Utah Motion Picture Incentive.

“We love filming in Utah and are pleased to be back in Utah for another season of ‘The Chosen.’ The people are wonderful, the landscape is stunning, and the locations we use work perfectly,” Brad Pelo, president and executive producer of “The Chosen,” said.

Haul Out the Holly 3

The third film in the “Haul Out the Holly” series, directed by Maclain Nelson, was approved for a Utah Motion Picture Incentive. Producer David Wulf said that Utah is an amazing location for family-friendly movies.

“This is the third installment of this iconic group of movies taking place in Utah’s incredible neighborhoods. A combination of this perfect neighborhood, the continued support from the Utah Film Commission, and Utah’s strong tradition with celebrating holidays—both Christmas and Halloween—make Utah the perfect home for this film.”

Christmas Roses

An upcoming holiday film, “Christmas Roses,” from local filmmaker John Lyde (“Love’s Portrait”) has been approved for a Utah Community Film Incentive.

“All the crew for this project, from production to post-production, hail from Utah. They are such a talented and dedicated group of filmmakers and working with them makes the entire process run so much smoother,” said Lyde.

“Insult to Injury”

“Insult to Injury,” a new episodic web series from local filmmaker T.J. Packer, has been approved for a Utah Community Film Incentive.

“The professionalism of the crew and production value we’ve received is unmatched,” said Packer.
