FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Gov. Andy Beshear warned of dangerous oncoming weather in a Team Kentucky update on Thursday.
Severe weather conditions are expected to set in on Friday night through Saturday.
“We’re talking about a widespread, long-lived storm,” Beshear said.
Wind gusts over 40 miles per hour are expected to hit the Commonwealth after midnight on Friday and persist through Saturday evening.
According to the governor, the westernmost region of Kentucky is expected to get hit the hardest.
“The primary threats are damaging winds, brief tornadoes, and isolated hail,” Beshear explained. “How severe they’re expected to be can change as we get closer.”
Flash flooding is also a possibility, and there’s a minor flooding chance on Green River downstream from Munfordville, per Beshear.
“This is serious, and we know this two days in advance, which is uncommon,” Beshear said. “We have multiple ways to get weather warnings. So please stay alert and seek shelter immediately when warnings are issued. Everybody be careful. Know it’s coming and make preparations.”
