NSU’s Brooklynn Stohler holds Baylor to one hit in four innings

NATCHITOCHES, La. (WNTZ) – A tight contest through four innings unraveled late as Baylor erupted for 10 runs in the final three frames to defeat Northwestern State 11-2 on Tuesday night.

The Demons (3-21) held their own early, with freshman pitcher Brooklynn Stohler keeping Baylor (12-13) in check. Riley Schwisow’s solo home run in the second inning evened the score at 1-1, and Stohler, making her conference-leading 17th start of the season, held the Bears to just one hit through the fourth.

A turning point came in the fifth when a bases-loaded error allowed two Baylor runs to score, opening the floodgates for a string of hits that put the game out of reach. The Bears tallied three straight hits to start the sixth, including a pair of home runs, stretching their lead to 6-1. A five-run seventh inning, fueled by RBI doubles, sealed the final margin.

“We hung with them for the first five innings and had some uncharacteristic errors that they capitalized on,” head coach Jenny Fuller said. “With a good team, if you let your guard down, they’re just going to run with it, and that’s what they did. I thought Brooklynn kept us in the game early on, and we had some good hits, but we have to play all seven innings.”

Despite the lopsided score, NSU matched Baylor’s offensive output in the hit column, recording nine hits to the Bears’ 11. Senior Bailie Ragsdale, returning from injury, provided a spark with two leadoff singles, while Peyton Peck and Cash Herber combined to manufacture NSU’s second run in the sixth.

The game also held personal significance for Fuller, as she faced her former coach, Baylor’s Glenn Moore, for the first time.

“It was definitely special for me,” Fuller said. “It’s not just Coach Moore—his son is helping in our dugout, and I played for Britni Newman, who was my pitching coach. It was great to see them, and they had such kind words about our program. We know we’ll get this thing going.”
