New Orleans, Baton Rouge officers make arrest in attempted murder investigation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — One man is in police custody following an attempted murder investigation by the New Orleans Police Department.

According to officers, around 2 a.m. on March 5, they received a call reporting a shooting in the 1000 block of St. Andrew Street.

Upon arrival, officers found a man on scene suffering from a gunshot wound. An update on his condition was not given.

An investigation revealed that two Baton Rouge rival groups had allegedly been involved in a shoot-out after leaving a night club.

In collaboration with the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers identified 25-year-old Broderick Butler as the suspected shooter.

A warrant for Butler’s arrest was issued. On March 13, a search warrant was executed for his home and vehicle where deputies reported finding an allegedly stolen 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine, a large sum of cash, drugs and “other items pertinent to the investigation.”

Butler has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of:

  • Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession of schedule II drugs
  • Being a fugitive (active NOPD arrest warrant)
  • Attempted second degree murder
  • Illegal use of a weapon charges
