BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Experian is canceling $5 million in debt for 5,000 Louisiana families to help ease financial struggles and improve their money management.
Experian is teaming up with LSU star Flau’Jae Johnson to boost financial literacy. Johnson, a junior guard and top athlete with NIL deals, will share how she manages her money. She aims to inspire others to take control of their finances.
According to a news release, the company will cancel an extra $100,000 in debt for every LSU win, up to $500,000 in total.
“It’s hard to get ahead when debt holds you back,” said Johnson. “I’m excited to work with Experian to help families take control of their financial future.”
Experian is working with ForgiveCo, a Public Benefit Corporation, to handle the debt relief process. Louisiana was chosen because of its high poverty rate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the news release said.
“Debt can stop people from reaching their goals,” said Dacy Yee, president of Experian Consumer Services. “We want to help families save money, improve their finances, and move toward a better future.”
Selected families will also get a free one-year Experian premium membership, a news release said. This includes access to their credit report, credit monitoring and tools to lower bills and help prevent fraud.
