BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Two students at Capitol Middle School were arrested after a firearm was found on campus Wednesday afternoon.
According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, task force members were called to the campus shortly after 2 p.m. about a gun found in a student’s backpack.
School administrators were notified that two students had guns on campus. School personnel took the unloaded gun from a backpack. Both students admitted to having a gun while on campus. No threats were made.
Two students, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old sixth grader, were booked into the East Baton Rouge juvenile detention center on charges of illegal carrying of a firearm on school property, firearm-free zone and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
