Indiana State Police troopers from the Bloomington Post and Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Detective Robert Whyte located and arrested Scott D. Kain, 37, on March 12, after he was investigated for child solicitation and dissemination of matter harmful to minors, according to a press release.
The investigation began after Whyte received a cybertip report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, that claimed Kain had allegedly requested images from a juvenile female victim on the social media platform Discord. The female also reported that Kain threatened to harm her if she did not provide the requested images.
During the investigation, Whyte was also contacted by Internet Crimes Against Children Investigators from Layton, Utah, and advised that a 14-year-old female victim told investigators Kain had allegedly solicited nude images of her.
The Utah female victim also told investigators Kain had allegedly threatened to murder her if she did not comply with his request, according to ISP.
A warrant was issued for Kain’s arrest in connection to the Utah investigation. Another warrant was also issued after Whyte discovered Kain was residing in Knox County and had previously been convicted as a sex offender and failed to register as one in the county.
Kain was then located in a basement at a southern Monroe County residence. Kain had allegedly been living there since the summer of 2024 and also didn’t register as a sex offender in the county.
Kain was charged with enticing a minor, a second-degree felony, in Davis County, Utah. In Knox County, Kain was charged with two counts of child solicitation and two counts of dissemination of harmful matter to minors. Kain was charged with failure to register as a sex offender in both Monroe and Knox Counties.
