Mock Trial competition takes over federal courthouse this weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — For many young Americans, most of their exposure to courtrooms comes from TV and movies.

The Civics Learning Project is trying to change that with a spirit competition.

Teams from 15 Oregon high schools are duking it out at the Hatfield Federal Courthouse this weekend to land their spot in the Mock Trial National Finals.

AM Extra was joined by Sam Kang, executive director of the Civics Learning Project, to learn more about the contest.
