‘Feel the vibes,’ First ever poster released depicting Super Sunday Festival

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Catching the Mardi Gras Indians on Fat Tuesday is often by chance, because there is no set route to find them.

But on “Super Sunday” the Indians show off their suits in one place.

Central City is abuzz in anticipation of the upcoming Uptown Super Sunday.

“During Mardi Gras, as you know, they’re scattered out throughout the city but this is an opportunity to bring all that culture to one spot,” said Jahlei Francois, poster artist.

This year, there is something new to commemorate the 2025 celebration.

The Warren Easton and New Orleans Center for Creative Arts senior, is also a Black Masking Indian and says she also hoped to capture the spirit of the day.

“I want you to feel the vibes like, ‘yeah, that’s what it is!” said Francois.

The poster is available for sale throughout the weekend at the Mardi Gras Indian Council on Lasalle Street. No doubt the celebration of the Super Sunday Festival has grown over the years but Organizer Bertrand Butler says the Uptown celebration stands above them all.

“I think this is the biggest, the largest gathering of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indians throughout the city, Uptown, Downtown, Backatown, up front and Algiers. You can’t get any larger. They all want to come to participate what they classify as the big boys!” said Butler.

Super Sunday starts with a procession at 12 p.m. on March 16, at A. L. Davis Playground at the corner of Washington Avenue and Lasalle Street.
