DJ Jazzy Jeff creates Philadelphia host city Sonic ID for FIFA World Cup 2026

Philadelphia will host six FIFA World Cup games in 2026.

FIFA has partnered with each host city to create and unveil their very own Sonic ID and its visualizer. The goal, according to FIFA, is to create “musical inspiration and a captivating glimpse into the cultural heartbeat of the Host Cities.”

“A stellar line-up of producers brought their distinctive sounds to the table, weaving a rich sonic tapestry that vividly captures the spirit and soul of their hometowns,” according to the FIFA World Cup 2026 website.

Legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff and host city executive for FIFA World Cup 26 Philadelphia, Meg Kane joined us in the PHL17 studio to show us Phillys Sonic ID and tell us more about what’s to come.

“FIFA produces a sound of the tournament, and so across all 16 host cities, there’s an overall sound but then each of the host cities has an opportunity to present and customize it so that it feels a little bit more like their culture, a little bit more that it reflects their city,” says Kane.

“Taking from the lineage of the gambling huffs and the neo-soul movement of the late 90s, I kind of wanted to craft something that felt like Philly not just sound like Philly but felt like it,” says DJ Jazzy Jeff.
