It’s been a mild open to the month of March with temperatures averaging more than four degrees above normal, good enough to rank 14th warmest opening 12 days at Midway Airport since records began there in 1928.
Wednesday highs were noticeably milder inland where widespread 50s and even 60s were common.
A easterly breeze off the chilly waters of Lake Michigan restricted temperatures closer to lake by as much as 23 degrees compared to the warmest south/southwest suburbs.
Sunshine has been plentiful as we logged 100% of the day’s possible sun Wednesday adding to the monthly surplus.
Temperatures across the Plains were even warmer where daytime highs were some 20-25 degrees above normal, including a near 80-degree high in St. Louis.
