Army recruiter arrested for alleged ‘inappropriate relationship’ with teenager

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — An Army recruiter who taught minors at a local gym was arrested Monday for a reported “inappropriate relationship” with a teenage student.

Dale Allen Miller, 39, was arrested on one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and one count of providing a minor tobacco/e-cig/nicotine product, a class C misdemeanor.

According to arrest documents, Miller was responsible for showing students “different drill exercises and other career path options.”

Other students told the owner of the gym that a 16-year-old was often seen walking away one-on-one with Miller, and the gym owner called the police to report the situation. The owner of the gym called the police in November 2024, and the victim was interviewed in December 2024.

The victim told police that she and Miller “would hang out in [Miller’s] truck, and he would always try to initiate physical touch” with the victim. He would allegedly talk about his sex life and inappropriately touch the victim, who told police she felt like she was getting groomed.

The victim said when Miller first began speaking to her one-on-one, it wasn’t inappropriate. However, he later began to talk about “really inappropriate things” he did in the military. He later offered the victim cigarettes and invited her into his truck.

Miller was taken into custody on March 10 and brought to the police. Arrest documents said he denied all the allegations against him.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
