WATCH: Driver steals car and nearly collides with garbage truck on RT 420

Prospect Park Police are working to identify the person who stole a red car and drove it recklessly through an intersection on Route 420 nearly causing an accident.

According to Chief Dave Madonna, a Prospect Park Officer received notification of a stolen vehicle passing through our automated license plate readers at Chester Pike and Lincoln Avenue (420).

The officer was able to locate the car on driving north on 420 and then turned onto a residential street. The car operator began driving recklessly while the officer attempted to stop the vehicle. At this point the officer “decided against pursuing the vehicle in the interest of public safety.”

The driver took off again, driving south on 420 where they nearly collided with a garbage truck.

”The video below captures one of the nearest misses of all time. Very fortunate that no one was hurt,” said Chief Madonna.

At this time the driver has not been identified.
