Utah sends firefighters to aid in Texas wildfires

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Several of Utah’s firefighters are on their way to Texas to help local agencies with “heightened fire activity” in the Lone Star State.

The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands said it would be sending two task forces to help with wildland firefighting efforts.

The task forces include engines and firefighters from Provo Fire, Juab Fire, Moab Fire, North Fork Special Services, Cedar City Fire, Dammeron Valley Fire, Enterprise Fire, Hurricane Valley Fire and Utah State staff.

The Utah contingent of firefighters will be in Texas for 14 days before returning home to the Beehive State.

According to reporting from KXAN, ABC4’s sister station in Austin, more than 500 acres have burned in wildfires across central Texas so far in 2025. At least 11 fires have burned across 15 counties, all but one of which have been contained.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said 116 of Texas’ 254 counties are currently under a burn ban as the state deals with gusty winds, dry air and an ongoing drought.

The Texas Forest Service said on March 11 that its crews responded to four new requests for assistance on wildfires that have so far burned 28.6 acres across the state.
