Rockford man accused of drug-induced homicide of 15-year-old boy

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Matthew Alexander, 34, for causing the death of a 15-year-old boy, according to court records.

On July 28th, 2024, officers were called to the 1100 block of Van Wie Avenue for an overdose death. Authorities said there were no visible signs of trauma when they saw the victim.

Officials searched the victim’s phones and found texts about buying drugs from Alexander, according to court documents.

An autopsy report revealed the teen died due to a heroin and fentanyl overdose.

After further investigation, police identified Alexander as the suspect and took him into custody. He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail on March 11th.

Alexander is charged with drug-induced homicide.
