Midway International Airport on Monday tied a 70-year-old temperature record for March 10, reaching 70 degrees. That’s a reading more typical of May 10 or about two months from now, and 25 degrees above normal!

The early taste of Spring was accompanied by nearly 90% of the day’s possible sunshine.

Monday’s warmth follows a weekend that was more than 14 degrees warmer than its predecessor the opening weekend of the month.

The warmth wasn’t confined to Chicago. Much of the Midwest enjoyed an early taste of Spring with highs soaring near or above 80-degrees in some areas, including Des Moines, Iowa, where new daily temperature records were established.
