Meadville police charging seven people for massive fight

(WJET/WFXP)– The City of Meadville Police Department announced they’ve charged seven people, including students, for their actions during a massive brawl that broke out at a high school basketball game between Meadville Area High School and Uniontown Area High School.

Meadville police announced Wednesday they’ve charged seven people for the brawl, the video of which has since gone viral and resulted in both teams being disqualified from the PIAA tournament along with other punishments.

Police have charged two Uniontown residents along with five Meadville residents, three of which are 16-year-old juveniles. Meadville police are charging the following people:

  • Reginald Grooms, 44, of Uniontown: simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct
  • Notorious Grooms, 18, of Uniontown: disorderly conduct
  • Malike Wilson, 25, of Meadville: disorderly conduct
  • One 16-year-old Uniontown male charged with disorderly conduct
  • One 16-year-old Meadville male charged with disorderly conduct
  • One 16-year-old Meadville male charged with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct
  • Joseph Chabot, 37, of Meadville: disorderly conduct

The fight began behind Meadville’s bench during the fourth quarter of the game and then escalated into both sides yelling at each other, leading to multiple fights in the stands with fans and players on the court.

On top of being removed from this season’s playoffs, both teams will also be removed from the 2025-26 playoff tournament unless they meet several behavioral guidelines put in place by the PIAA.

No injuries were reported from the fight.
