Lafayette Parish deputies said Edwin Silence, 52, was arrested on Monday, March 10 in the 200 block of Sunflower Drive.
According to investigators, Silence made statements to at least one victim identifying himself as an out-of-state law enforcement officer, displaying a badge and wearing a uniform.
Lafayette Parish deputies, along with Pike County deputies and Summit police in Mississippi, said they discovered Silence was a former law enforcement officer at the Mississippi agencies. They said he has yet to return several pieces of department-owned property.
A search warrant was executed at Silence’s residence, along with his vehicle. Investigators said they recovered a multitude of law enforcement-related items belonging to the Mississippi agencies. The items included an agency-owned pistol and two AR-15 style firearms.
Silence was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for two counts of fraudulent portrayal of a law enforcement officer.
The investigation is ongoing.
