Eunice community supports Ray’s Bakery staff after fire tragedy

EUNICE, la. (KLFY) — Residents are coming together to raise money for the employees of the beloved Eunice bakery that was burned a week ago.

Terry Darbonne ,Eunice City Marshal, said, “This is what small communities do, we get together to help the employees that no longer have wages right now.”

The Eunice community is planning a benefit that will raise funds by selling burgers, chips, and drinks to those who have tickets and are interested in helping out. Event organizer Joey Trichell said this type of event, which gives all proceeds to the employees, has already seen success when they helped the employees of Nick’s last year.

“We hope to sell out, our goal is about 1,500 burgers. That may increase depending on how much traction we get.” Trichell said.

To measure how many burgers are needed, Trichell asks anyone interested in a ticket to reach out to his Facebook page or local businesses around Eunice.

Aside from the burger sell, there is also a non-profit bank account set up for donations that is totally dedicated to the employees of Ray’s Bakery.

Trichell told News 10, “It’s called Helping Hands of Eunice. The account is set up for donations. All donations will be divided up between the employees. There are 15 Ray’s Bakery employees that will be benefiting from anybody’s generosity. It’s helping hands of Eunice, and the account is at Washington State Bank. All you have to do is say “Ray’s Benefit” and it all goes to them.”

That benefit is going to take place in the parking lot of Ray’s Bakery on Saturday, March 22. at 10 a.m.
