Bystander prevents car fire in Layton roll-over crash, two people hospitalized

LAYTON, Utah (ABC4) — Two people were hospitalized after a man had a medical incident while driving in Layton on Tuesday, March 11, according to the Layton Police Department.

Police said a 75-year-old man was driving with a 79-year-old female passenger when he had a medical incident behind the wheel. Witnesses told authorities that the vehicle sped up and veered off the road, hitting a sign and a boulder before rolling over.

Authorities said the vehicle started to spark and a bystander put it out before a fire could start. The bystander then helped authorities extricate the man and woman from their vehicle, after which they were transported to local hospitals.

Police said the driver had minor to moderate injuries and the passenger had a significant head injury. Their current condition is unknown.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
