People in London demand legal action be taken to save dogs they say are living in filth

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — People in London are demanding legal action be taken to save the lives of animals they say are living in filth.

This comes after a social media post alleged a local woman is keeping dozens of dogs in unhealthy conditions.

Videos and pictures circulating on social media show a disturbing living space where, allegedly, more than 40 dogs are being housed in London.

A charity organization called “Justice for Abused Animals Inc.” claimed the woman who owns the dogs is incapable of caring for them and may be putting herself in danger.

“It’s not right,” said local animal advocate Cassandra Howard. “It’s not okay. Whether you’re desensitized to it or not.”

Howard recently made a Facebook post as a call for help after speaking with one of the dog owner’s friends. It’s been shared more than 500 times.

“I’ve been told that the bigger dogs were killing the little ones and eating them because they’re so starved,” said Howard. “Apparently, over 15 dogs in the past year have been buried in her backyard. And they’re living, you know, in their own feces and things like that. So, you know, I’m sure they’ve got parasites and different things like that. So, it’s definitely not safe.”

FOX 56 spoke on the phone with “Justice for Abused Animals Inc.” Monday afternoon. Organization leaders said a Laurel County sheriff’s deputy and a Kentucky state trooper have gone to the home, but that the homeowner was either not there or not willing to answer the door.

They said law enforcement did not have probable cause at that time, which means they were not able to take the next step and execute a search warrant.

“I truly just want her and these dogs to get help,” said Howard.

Both Howard and “Justice for Abused Animals Inc.” encourage the woman, whom we’ve chosen not to name at this point, to speak with the police about the situation. Regardless, they said they plan to continue being a voice for these animals until the issue is resolved.

“We need to be their advocate,” said Howard. “We need to be the ones that step in and say this isn’t right. Step up for their care.”

Monday night, state police told us a trooper went inside the home, and while it wasn’t the cleanest, all of the dogs did have food and water. The trooper said the owner was cleaning up the home and getting the dogs groomed. So, for now, KSP is not intervening. The dog owner also denies any neglect.
