Man charged with attempted murder of Chicago police officer in reckless DUI incident

CHICAGO – A 22-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder of a Chicago police officer after he hit the officer with his vehicle while driving under the influence late Saturday night.

According to police, officers patrolling on foot observed a large crowd in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue around 11:30 p.m. A 22-year-old, now identified as Jose Ruiz-Crespin, was driving a gray sedan was then attempting to leave the area when he struck an officer, causing the officer to fall to the ground with an ankle injury.

Ruiz-Crespin was arrested at the scene and has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated DUI resulting in an accident with bodily harm, and multiple misdemeanors.

He has a court hearing set for Tuesday, March 11.
