CHARENTON, La. (
KLFY) — A lost hunter was successfully rescued March 1 in the Attakapas Wildlife Management Area in St. Mary Parish after an hours-long search, authorities said.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents, along with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to a call around 5:30 p.m. March 1 after the unidentified hunter failed to return from a rabbit hunt.
Search teams covered the area on foot, while the USCG deployed a helicopter, locating and extracting the hunter around 8:30 p.m.
Officials said the hunter was unharmed and had been rabbit hunting when he got turned around and he had forgotten his phone in his vessel.
Sgt. Jake Darden, Sgt. Lucas Hidalgo, Senior Agent Joel Rubio and Agent Harry Gaines participated in the search, officials said.
