Community Crossings matching grants to be used to complete road projects across the state, including Noblesville

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — With construction season quickly approaching, Gov. Mike Braun and the Indiana Department of Transportation announced the areas getting Community Crossings matching grant funding.

More than $200 million is being given to 245 areas across the state to improve road infrastructure, including Noblesville. Throughout the city, there are more than 700 centerline miles of road to navigate.

Mayor Chris Jensen said they applied for the matching grants in the hopes of receiving some money toward future projects, but were awarded the full $1.5 million.

“We spend about $5.5 million every single year on road resurfacing, so this goes a long way,” said Jensen.

Noblesville has a system to rank and grade its roads based on their condition, and that’s how city officials identified the areas they wanted to work on.

“We try to tackle, kind of at least a project in each quadrant of the city,” he said.

The money will go toward repaving some of the rough roads throughout Noblesville. Different homeowner’s associations across the city also keep in touch with the Mayor’s office to let them know which areas need to be addressed.

The Mayor recently spoke at the Harbours HOA meeting about how they’ll be one of the spots tackled with this funding.

“Not only up by the Harbours, for example, that is kind of an aging area of the city, with aging neighborhood streets,” said Jensen. “But also on the far east side, taking a look at some of our newer growth areas.”

As for the other areas this money will be used for, they’re still in the process of notifying each spot about the projects.

“We’ll get ready to announce here shortly different neighborhoods that we’ll be tackling this summer,” said Jensen. “Asphalt plants don’t open in Indiana until about mid-April, so we’ll be ready to roll when that happens.”

Hamilton County was also awarded $1.5 million from the Community Crossings matching grants. Mayor Jensen added they work closely with their neighbors to make sure all roads throughout the community are safe for drivers.
