Bruins rewrite record books in Arizona

PORTLAND, Ore. (GFU Athletics) — The George Fox women’s golf team finished up their second round of play in the Westbrook Invitational on Sunday, defeating a stacked cast of top 20 teams to win the event.

Alison Takamiya tied for the medalist position with teammate Makensie Toole, both had an overall score of 135 (-7) to wrap up the weekend. Takamiya had a record-tying day, scoring a birdie and eight pars in the front nine before an otherworldly five straight birdies and on the back nine. She finished the day up with a score of 66 (-5) — tied with her teammate Liana Brown for the lowest single-round in program history.

Toole finished up the weekend tying with Takamiya for first place overall with a score of 135 (-7). Toole had one birdie and eight pars in the front nine before coming alive with four birdies on the back nine. Her overall score for Sunday’s round was 67 (-4), one of her best days as a Bruin. Overall, the two Fox golfers combined to shoot 14-under for the tournament, the best any two players had shot in GFU history. Not to be outdone, Liana Brown placed in fifth place overall with a score of 143 (+1). Brown had one birdie, seven pars, and a bogey in the back nine. She then had seven pars in the front nine. Her overall score for the second round of play was 73 (+2).
