The incident occurred in the Veterans Memorial Stadium parking lot across from the UMMC campus on Sunday, March 9. UMMC police, with support from Capitol police, are investigating the assault.
“We take seriously the safety of everyone on our campus and will continue to work with our partners, including Capitol police and other law enforcement, to uphold this commitment,” UMMC officials said in a statement to WJTV 12 News.
A woman, who appeared to be the victim, shared pictures on social media that showed her with bruises and cuts on her face and arms.
The woman said she was choked multiple times and punched in the head. She also said the suspect threatened to shoot her if she ran away.
The woman said she offered the suspect her purse, but he kept beating her. She said the assault ended when someone drove into the parking lot.
