Two men injured in ‘targeted’ shooting on far east side

INDIANAPOLIS — Two men were injured in an early Monday morning shooting on the far east side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 10000 block of East 33rd Street just before 3 a.m.

When officers arrived, they located two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and the other was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. Both were reportedly in stable condition.

Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

“Currently all that we know now is we feel this was a targeted attack on these individuals,” said Capt. Don Weilhammer with IMPD. “The reason why we feel it was targeted is somebody actually went into the back yard and shot in through the back window and the back of the house. [They] specifically only hit and targeted this particular house.”

Weilhammer said it didn’t appear any other homes in the neighborhood were hit by gunfire.

Police didn’t have a description on a suspect. As of this writing, detectives hadn’t been able to talk to the two men who were shot to get more information.

Weilhammer appealed for surveillance footage from neighboring homes and asked people who may have seen anything–such as a suspicious person or vehicle–to reach out to investigators.

Anyone with information should contact IMPD at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
