Texas man faces murder charge in Lake Charles parking lot shooting

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) — A Texas man who allegedly killed a Lake Charles man in a parking lot during a physical altercation is facing a murder charge, officials said.

Fabian Charles, 34, of Port Arthur, Texas is charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of Javin Augustus, 25, of Lake Charles, officials said.

According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a Common Street bar in Lake Charles at 5 a.m. Sunday. Officials said the men were in a physical altercation in the parking lot where Augustus was shot.

Charles is charged with obstruction of justice, second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon by discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, officials said.

Deputies said Charles’s bond is set at $1.7 million.
