According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4300 block of Shady View Drive around 10:30 p.m. on a report of a person stabbed. When officers arrived at the apartment building, they located a male victim with apparent stab wounds in a first-floor hallway.
Per IMPD, IEMS personnel pronounced the victim dead within 10 minutes of their arrival at the scene. It is unclear if police have identified any suspects or persons of interest at this point in their investigation of the stabbing.
Police reported that they are searching for security or doorbell cameras that may have captured the video of the stabbing. Detectives are also hoping to obtain the victim’s cell phone to see if it can provide any clues about stabbing.
IMPD confirmed its officers found blood on the first and second floors of the apartment complex. Officers also located blood in one of the building’s stairwells.
As of Saturday night, officials had not determined the exact age of the victim. An IMPD spokesperson, however, indicated the victim is believed to be an adult male.
Police reported that the stabbing was an isolated incident that does not pose on ongoing threat to the community. IMPD is trying to work with members of the neighborhood who may have witnessed the stabbing.
Police are asking those with information on the stabbing to contact detective Michael Wright at (317) 327-3475 or Michael.Wright@indy.gov.
Alternatively, tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can get in touch with Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana by calling (317) 262-8477, using the P3Tips mobile app or visiting www.crimetips.org.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office is assisting IMPD with its investigation of the stabbing. The coroner will publicly identify the decedent once his family has been properly notified of his death.
