Kentucky State Police said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. at the Meader Street and Handley Avenue intersection in Campbellsville.
Trooper said Howard Poling, 78, was driving a Ford Expedition when he attempted to cross Meader Street onto Coakley Street. It was there that KSP said Poling didn’t see Johnny Dickens, 55, on his moped traveling nearby and struck him.
Dickens was declared dead at the scene by the Taylor County coroner, according to state police.
Officials said Poling allegedly had an open alcoholic beverage at the time and was charged with vehicular homicide, possession of an open container in a motor vehicle, DUI, and other traffic offenses.
Jail records show that he was booked into the Taylor County Detention Center and is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
Poling is due to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on March 19, according to court records.
