Alleged shoplifter spray paints officer at Louisville Walmart

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — An accused shoplifter faces multiple charges after reportedly spray painting a police officer.

Court records state that around 7 p.m. on Sunday at Walmart, 22-year-old Kurtis Smith was stopped for reportedly shoplifting.

But when an officer went to handcuff him, he reportedly punched the officer and then used a can of spray paint to spray the officer in her eyes and mouth before fleeing.

He was later arrested and charged with the following:

  • Second-degree assault of a police officer
  • First-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer
  • Second-degree fleeing or evading police
  • Second-degree criminal mischief
  • First-degree robbery

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Smith entered a not-guilty plea on Monday and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
